Exceptions can never prove rules. They can only weaken them.

An interesting post as ever. I am intrigued by your Western Union fact and it does give substantial food for thought.

I'm sure you will blog in due course about the story that seemed to crop up today on the pan European Health service that seemed to receive approval recently. Leaving aside the fact this was negotiated on our behalf by the architect of the Tax Credit fiasco, Dawn Primarolo, I was rather interested in principle that lay behind this move.

At its heart, allowing patients to cross borders is an attempt to allow the exploitation of various pockets of Medical expertise located throughout the EU. It would also be an attempt to widen the competitive mechanism seen in state provided care because PCTs only pay Hospitals for the treatment they provide.

For the Libertarian, I'm sure, it provides a rather nice chance to sit back and smile knowingly at the site of the various states of the EU trying to copy something that happens naturally in the private sector. Or does it?

I for one am pleased to see the EU do what it does best: aiding progress.
